This artwork explores the Jungian concept of Anima and Animus. For years, I kept my hair long to meet others' expectations of femininity. However, as I entered my Senior year, I cut my hair short to challenge the social norm and experience freedom from stereotypes.
“Dancing Outside” features a pair of hairless statues with a shared shadow – in this sculpture, I balance masculinity and femininity, symbolized as a dance between male and female figures. The sculpture also reflects an internal struggle, with the integration of Anima and Animus shown through a dark shadow and swords extended from their fingernails, representing polarized expectations of society deeply ingrained in our identities.
