The eyes are where emotions can be read most quickly. It sometimes made me prefer to communicate through electronic devices instead of face-to-face conversations whenever I had to discuss uncomfortable topics with someone. Digital communication systems such as Zoom and Google Meets gradually became preferable for teenagers due to their accessibility and easy camera on-and-off controls. This recent phenomena correlates with the Jungian concept of persona, which is the act of trying to hide sincerity.
This work represents lack of deep communication and absence of honesty –the subject’s eyes are covered by the blurred reflection of water. The figure’s eyes concealed, symbolizing an individual lost in the unknown and blind to her essence, unable to see the helping hands right in front of her. Water represents the inner mind and is interwoven with the helping hands–I used splattering techniques to guide viewers into a mysterious atmosphere that leads to the world of the unknown human mind.
